My name is Jordan Murphrey. I am a rising senior at The Kinkaid School in Houston, Texas. I’m a well-rounded student and have various extracurricular activities under my belt, among them horseback riding. I have been passionate about horses since I was thirteen months old. I rode my first horse at a rodeo and could not stop smiling about it for the rest of the day. I rode leisurely until I was five years old and started riding competitively thereafter while also actively participating in sports. I played club soccer, volleyball, lacrosse, field hockey, basketball, gymnastics, cheer, and track until the eighth grade when I decided to take my passion, horseback, more seriously. However, I didn’t want to give up team sports and made varsity track my freshman year of high school and varsity soccer my sophomore year. I have been on the varsity soccer team for almost 3 years, and it has impacted my life tremendously. It taught me how to manage my horseback and academic priorities while also remaining attentive to my team. I am a very optimistic and bubbly person, so I’m able to offer support and reassurance to my teammates, which brings us closer. I form close connections with everyone I meet because I tend to get along with almost everyone I interact with; it is a special trait that I have.
Similarly, I’m able to build a connection and trust with my horse in horseriding. My love for animals is the reason I fell in love with this sport of dressage and show jumping. I admire the mutual respect between horse and rider. It is so special because to understand it you really have to experience it. I think it is a sad but wonderful thing that only so many people truly understand the connection between horse and rider because it makes it that much more special than it already is. I don’t think that there will ever be a day that I do not cherish the connection with animals that this sport has given me.
Throughout my equestrian career, I have been very adamant about the importance of horse care. My dedication has shown in my time spent out at the barn when my horse was off for an injury. I would spend more hours grooming and walking my mare compared to many kids my age. I also just spent time with her building the connection that has allowed us to be so successful in the jumper ring. My extra time with my mare created a bond that I hold dear to me. It also taught me to the importance of trust and a connection with horses. The sport itself has played a huge role in my life with not only countless winnings and awards, but also in my personal life.
I spend a lot of my time working at Caine Country Club which is a dog training business located in Katy, Texas. I have a passion for rescue dogs that stemmed from the relationship I had with my first rescue dog, Fiona, who changed my life. Overall I am a very hard-working and passionate individual that won’t stop until things are as perfect as they can be. My hard work shows in my riding. I work as hard as I can on the big things and the basics to ensure that overall I can perform to the best of my abilities. I am a very coachable person who is determined to get better. I hope you consider me for your equestrian team as I believe I would bring a lot of talent as well as personality to the team. I will link my videos below and I will follow up with flat videos. Thank you for your time and consideration. Feel free to contact my trainer, I will link her email and phone number below.
